Utah | Animal Chiropractic Summary

In general, the animal chiropractic laws are under the chiropractic scope of practice. 

In accordance with Subsection 58-28-307(12)(a), a chiropractic physician practicing animal chiropractic shall have completed an animal chiropractic course approved by the American Chiropractic Veterinary Association (ACVA) or another course that is substantially equivalent to the ACVA course.

Chiropractic Physician Practice Act

R156-73-603. Standards for Practice of Animal Chiropractic.

In accordance with Subsection 58-28-307(12)(a), a chiropractic physician practicing animal chiropractic shall have completed an animal chiropractic course approved by the American Chiropractic Veterinary Association (ACVA) or another course that is substantially equivalent to the ACVA course.

Three is an exemption under the veterinarian statute that allows for animal chiropractic: 58-28-307 Exemptions from chapter.

(12) (a) upon written referral by a licensed veterinarian, the practice of animal chiropractic by a chiropractic physician licensed under Chapter 73, Chiropractic Physician Practice Act, who has completed an animal chiropractic course approved by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association or the division

Certification Requirements

Certification must be from the American Veterinarian Chiropractic Association

 

Scope of Practice

The scope of practice is open and does not require direct supervision from a licensed veterinarin in the state of Utah.

Continuing Education reqirements

An animal chiropractor is required to maintain their certification from the AVCA. The animal chiropractor must comply with the CE requirements for their certification program in order to keep that certification active.
